Landscaping SEO: How to Get More Landscaping Clients from Google

Landscaping SEO: How to Get More Landscaping Clients from Google

I get it. You're a damn good landscaper, but the phone isn't ringing enough. You see your competitors—some of whom don't do half the quality of work you do—all over Google, and you're wondering how they're doing it. The answer is landscaping SEO. I’m Josh, and I’m a contractor, just like you. I got tired of getting ripped off by marketing agencies that promised the world and delivered nothing. So I figured it out myself. Now, I’m going to show you how to get your landscaping business found on Google, so you can get more of the right kind of clients.

Your Website is Your Digital Storefront

Think of your website as your best salesperson. It works 24/7, never calls in sick, and can talk to thousands of potential customers at once. But if it’s not optimized for Google, it’s like having a billboard in the middle of the desert. Here’s what you need to do:

Build a Website That Works

Your website needs to be clean, fast, and easy to navigate. When a potential client lands on your site, they should be able to figure out who you are, what you do, and how to contact you in about three seconds. That’s it. No fancy animations, no confusing menus. Just a straight-to-the-point website that showcases your work.

  • Showcase Your Work: Your portfolio is your money-maker. Have a gallery of your best projects. Before-and-after shots are pure gold. For every project, write a short description of what you did. Use local keywords here, like “new patio installation in Austin, TX.”
  • List Your Services: Don’t make people guess what you do. Have a clear, detailed list of your services. If you do landscape design, lawn maintenance, hardscaping, irrigation, etc., have a separate page for each. This is great for landscaping SEO because it allows you to target specific keywords for each service.
  • Make it Mobile-Friendly: Over 60% of your potential clients are searching for you on their phones. If your website looks like garbage on a phone, you’re losing business. Period. Google also ranks mobile-friendly sites higher, so this is a no-brainer.

Google Business Profile: Your Local SEO Powerhouse

If you do nothing else, do this. Your Google Business Profile (GBP) is the single most important thing for local SEO. It’s that box that pops up in Google Maps and on the right side of the search results. It’s free, and it’s how local customers find you.

Optimizing Your GBP

  • Fill Out Everything: I mean *everything*. Your business name, address, phone number, website, hours of operation, services, etc. The more information you give Google, the more it will trust you and show you to potential customers.
  • Get Reviews: This is huge. You need to have a steady stream of 5-star reviews. Ask every happy client to leave you a review. Make it easy for them by sending them a direct link. And respond to every review, good or bad. It shows you care.
  • Upload Photos: Post high-quality photos of your work regularly. Before-and-afters, pictures of your crew (with their permission, of course), and pictures of your equipment. This shows you’re a real, active business.

Content is King, Even for Contractors

I know, you’re a landscaper, not a writer. But you need to have content on your website that answers your customers’ questions. This is how you build trust and authority, and it’s a huge part of a good landscaping SEO strategy. You don't need to be a professional writer, just write like you talk. Here are some ideas:

  • Blog Posts: Write about topics your customers are searching for. “How much does a new patio cost?” “When is the best time to prune trees in [Your City]?” “Low-maintenance landscaping ideas for [Your State].”
  • Project Spotlights: Go into detail about a recent project. Talk about the challenges, the materials you used, and the final result. This is a great way to showcase your expertise and attract your ideal clients.
  • Service Pages: I mentioned this before, but it’s worth repeating. Have a detailed page for each of your services. Don’t just list them. Explain the process, the benefits, and why you’re the best choice for the job. Our [SEO for contractors](/services/seo-for-contractors) service is a great example of this.
